Uranium Corporation of India Limited has marked six decades of uranium mining and processing, highlighting its role in India’s nuclear power programme.

The Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), a public sector enterprise under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), celebrated its Diamond Jubilee Year at Jaduguda on 4 October 2026.

The milestone marks six decades since UCIL was incorporated in 1967 and reflects its contribution to India’s uranium mining and processing capabilities and nuclear power programme.

Seema Jain, Member-Finance, Atomic Energy Commission, attended the celebrations as Chief Guest. During the programme, she visited UCIL’s Technology Demonstration Pilot Plant at Jaduguda and the proposed site of the Dark Matter Laboratory at the 815-metre level of the Jaduguda underground mine.

Jain said UCIL’s six-decade journey reflected the development of scientific capability and institutional experience in uranium mining and processing. She also highlighted the role of UCIL personnel in sustaining operations in challenging conditions.

Dr Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy and Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, said the anniversary was an opportunity to recognise UCIL’s contribution and reaffirm the importance of continued innovation and capability building as India advances its Nuclear Energy Mission.

The celebrations included a journalists’ workshop at the Information Centre, Narwapahar, and a DAE Technology Exhibition showcasing technologies and applications developed by DAE units and institutions. Media delegates also visited UCIL’s uranium mining and milling facilities, gaining first-hand exposure to mining operations, ore handling and processing systems.

Dr Kacham Anand Rao, Chairman and Managing Director, UCIL, said the organisation had built expertise and infrastructure in uranium mining and processing over six decades while strengthening capabilities in technology, safety and environmental management.

Established in 1967, UCIL has developed capabilities spanning underground and opencast mining, ore processing, technology development, occupational safety, radiation protection and environmental management.
