Shyam Metalics has secured mining rights to the Phutamura coal block in Chhattisgarh, which holds estimated reserves of 170 million tonnes, with production expected from July 2027.
Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd has secured mining rights to the Phutamura coal block in Chhattisgarh through its investment in Alom Solar Pvt Ltd, which was declared the successful bidder for the block.
Located in the Mand-Raigarh coalfield in Raigarh district, the block covers approximately 7.324 sq km and has estimated coal reserves of 170 million tonnes. Mining operations and coal production are expected to begin in July 2027.
The acquisition is part of the group’s backward integration strategy to secure a long-term coal supply for its captive power plants and steel manufacturing operations, reducing dependence on external fuel sources.
“This development strengthens our backward integration framework, ensuring uninterrupted fuel security for our captive power plants and core steel operations,” said Brij Bhushan Agarwal, chairman and managing director of Shyam Metalics and Energy.
Kolkata-headquartered Shyam Metalics operates across the steel value chain, with products including long and flat steel, ferro alloys, aluminium and stainless steel. It has an aggregate installed metal capacity of 16.93 million tonnes per annum and captive power generation capacity of 467 MW.
