Backed by massive government financing, a strategic joint venture forms to completely modernise and restart one of the United States’ largest historic tungsten mining and processing operations.

In a monumental effort to rapidly rebuild a secure, domestic supply chain for critical military and industrial metals, Blue Moon Metals has officially signed a binding agreement with The Elmet Group to redevelop the Springer Tungsten Complex in Nevada. Confirmed in mid-September 2026, this highly strategic partnership unlocks a massive financing package intended to completely modernise the historically significant mine and its associated processing infrastructure.

The comprehensive redevelopment plan demands massive heavy civil, mechanical, and metallurgical engineering. The joint venture partners will aggressively execute the physical rehabilitation of both the underground and open-pit mining operations. Furthermore, the massive capital injection will fund the complete structural overhaul of the site’s legacy 1,200-tonne-per-day milling facility and the highly complex Ammonium Paratungstate (APT) processing plant. Once fully modernised and operational, the Springer Complex is uniquely positioned to become the first material producer of tungsten concentrate in North America, drastically reducing the nation’s reliance on overseas imports for advanced defense manufacturing.

This capital-intensive redevelopment is heavily bolstered by strategic financial backing from the U.S. Department of Defense, recognising tungsten’s absolute necessity in aerospace and munitions applications. For the regional mining EPC sector, reviving the Springer Complex guarantees a multi-year pipeline of lucrative contracts for heavy earthmoving, specialised chemical plant fabrication, and vast electrical grid upgrades, cementing Nevada’s role in the critical minerals transition.
