19 nations converge to transform India’s mining future

The “India Mining: Global Connect” initiative sets the stage for unprecedented international collaboration, drawing diplomatic missions from 19 countries to modernise the sector.
As the country gears up for the highly anticipated India Mining Week 2026 in November, the Ministry of Mines has successfully accelerated its international outreach program, “India Mining: Global Connect.” Recent diplomatic interactions have officially brought together representatives from 19 different countries, marking one of the most significant multinational collaborations in the history of the Indian mining sector.
The primary objective of this massive global convergence is to attract foreign direct investment and facilitate the transfer of next-generation mining technologies. India’s mining sector is currently undergoing a massive structural transformation, pivoting from traditional, surface-level extraction to complex, deep-seated mining operations. This transition requires advanced technological interventions—including autonomous heavy earth-moving machinery, AI-driven geological surveying, and sustainable, zero-waste extraction methods—areas where several participating nations hold profound expertise.
A major focal point of the dialogues with the 19 nations revolves around critical minerals. As India aggressively pursues its green energy transition and electric vehicle manufacturing goals, securing a steady supply chain of lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements has become a matter of national security. The Global Connect initiative aims to forge strategic bilateral partnerships to explore and develop these critical mineral blocks both within India and abroad.
By engaging equipment manufacturers, technology providers, and institutional investors on a global scale, the Indian government is sending a clear message: the domestic mining sector is open for business. This diplomatic push is expected to yield substantial joint ventures and technology-sharing agreements when the main expo officially opens later this year.
